Day 2 (Mahachai seafood pier- Mae Klong Railway Market- boat ride to Wat Bang Kung Temple) (B, L, D)
  • Today’s tour gives you a glimpse into what goes on behind the scenes of sourcing the best ingredients for any good meal. We get an early start and drive to Mahachai seafood pier by 6:30am. This is the point where the Ta Chine River and Mahachai Canal converge and is one of the largest seafood piers in the Gulf of Thailand. Every morning fishermen bring in their fresh catches to have them auctioned to the highest bidders. Watch how deck hands from fishermen’s boats pass on baskets of shrimps, lobsters, cuttlefish and various other shellfish to traders on the pier who then sell these to multiple vendors in the adjoining seafood market. This is also where most big seafood plants get their supplies. Next, we make our way to Mae Klong Railway market, a unique bazaar where vendors pitch their stalls along train tracks. Watch the fascinating bargaining that goes on between buyers and vendors who periodically raise their awnings to make way for an approaching train. Take a stroll around the market and have a look at all the wonderful fresh produce. We will stop for breakfast at a local café before heading to Ampawa. Our first stop in this intricate labyrinth of canals and waterways is the Benjarong House and Museum. Here you can see skilled artisans hand- painting delicate patterns on porcelain ware. We stop for a Thai set lunch at a homestay before setting off for a boat ride along the canal, crossing fruit orchards, coconut trees and rural settlements. Our boat ride brings us to the 200- year old Wat Bang Kung Temple, covered by the roots of an enormous banyan tree. After a full day’s excursion, we return to your hotel in the evening.
Day 3 (Visit to fruit farms- fruit picking, cooking class, handicraft making) (B, L, D)
  • Today you get a taste of rural Thailand with a visit to two charming fruit farms on the outskirts of Bangkok. Have an early breakfast at the hotel and then drive for a couple of hours to reach the first village. Explore a coconut orchard on bicycle and learn about the many uses of this fruit loved and used by millions of people around the world. From cold coconut oil to the meaty flesh of the fruit to even the husk of the coconut shell, every part of the fruit has its own use. Next, help farmers carefully release wasps into the orchards. These wasps control worms from infesting the fruits. Not feeling up to a bicycle ride? No problem. Let local villagers show you how to make traditional handicrafts like weaving pandan leaves and making paper garlands. Learn an authentic Thai chicken curry recipe using coconut shells made exclusively in this village and then enjoy the fruits of your labour at lunchtime! Post lunch it’s onwards to the second farm of the day. Here you can enjoy an all-our-can-eat papaya buffet and pick your fruits straight from the trees. This is an activity that the whole family can enjoy. The tour finally ends with an instructive guide on the methods of bee farming where you can taste the freshest honey brought straight from the hives. How’s that for a sweet finale! After a full day’s excursion we return to the hotel where you’re free to spend the rest of the evening at leisure.
